A Musical Note

We love listening to music while we're working in the sewing room... And why not? Music is one of those things that is loved all over the world - a language that everyone, no matter their nationality or native tongue, can understand and appreciate.

This is one of the songs we were listening to this month in the studio - "The Lonely Shepherd".

"The Lonely Shepherd", released in 1977 by James Last, was made famous by Gheorghe Zamfir, a Romanian panflutist. It has been used as a soundtrack for several films and TV shows, as well as being performed by several famous musicians, including André Rieu. But this version, performed by David Döring, is our favourite - it's both beautiful and dramatic!

The panpipes (also known as the panflute), are one of my favourite instruments to listen to - they have a very mellow and haunting sound. David Döring is a professional panflute musician - if you like this video, you can listen to more of his music here.

Let us know in the comments what you think of this version of "The Lonely Shepherd"!

Yes, panpipes are beautifully haunting and so soulful! I hadn't heard of David Döring before today. Thanks for sharing.

There is a Latin American man here in Tasmania who often plays his variety of panpipes at the Westbury Market and also in the main street of Deloraine. There is always a group of delighted listeners surrounding him, enjoying the music.
