In early September, one of our ducks, named Molly, started sitting on a clutch of 14 eggs. She is a very good mother duck - she faithfully incubated the eggs for four weeks. Did you know duck eggs require 28 days of incubation, but chicken eggs only need 21?
Then over the weekend, seven little ducklings hatched - of the other seven eggs, one duckling died in the shell, and the other six eggs weren't viable.
These are call ducks - Molly, the ducklings' mother, is a natural mallard call duck, and their father was a chocolate mallard call duck. The combination of colours that came from them is quite interesting - as you can see, four of the ducklings are brown, one is black, and two are yellow. I'll give you an update when they're fully feathered so you can see what they look like grown up!
